2 HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

Hazardous according to criteria of Safe Work Australia.

4 FIRST AID MEASURES

Poisons Information Centre: Phone 131 126

Swallowed: If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons

Information Centre. If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting.

Give a glass of water. Rinse mouth with water. Never give

anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Eye: Immediately hold the eyes open and wash continuously for

at least 15 minutes with fresh running water. Ensure irrigation

under eyelids by occasionally lifting the upper and lower lids.

Transport to hospital or doctor without delay. Removal of

contact lenses after an eye injury should only be undertaken

by skilled personnel.

Skin: Remove any contaminated clothing and shoes and flush

area with water and soap if available. Seek medical attention

in the event of irritation.

Inhaled: Remove to fresh air. Lay patient down. Keep warm and

rested. If breathing is shallow or has stopped, ensure clear

airway and apply resuscitation. Transport to doctor or hospital.

5 FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Fire/Explosion Hazard: Product is a strong oxidiser. Contact

with clothing or combustibles may cause fire. Contact with

organic liquids or vapours may cause immediate fire or

explosion, especially if heated, or may result in delayed

detonation.

Fire Extinguishing media: Use water.

Fire Fighting PPE: Wear SCBA and chemical splash suit.

Structural fire fighter’s uniform will provide limited protection.

Special fire-fighting procedures: Do not use dry chemicals, CO

2

or foam. If safe to do so, move undamaged containers from

fire area.

Unusual fire hazards: Will accelerate burning when involved in a

fire. May explode from heating, shock, friction or

contamination. May react explosively with hydrocarbons

(fuels). May ignite combustibles (wood, paper, clothing, etc).

Containers may explode when heated. Run-off may create fire

or explosion hazard.

Hazardous products of combustion: Thermal decomposition will

yield oxygen gas and irritating, poisonous and/or corrosive

gases.

6 ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Clean up all spills immediately. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

Immediately contact Police or Fire Brigade.

Spill or leak area should be isolated immediately for at least 25

metre in all directions. Do not contaminate spilled material. Do not

touch damaged containers or spilled material unless wearing

appropriate protective clothing.

Prevent entry into waterways, drains and pits. Use a non-

combustible material like vermiculite, sand or earth to soak up the

product and place in a loosely-covered container for later disposal.

7 HANDLING AND STORAGE

Precautions for safe handling: Ensure an eye bath and safety

shower are available and ready for use. Observe good

personal hygiene practices and recommended procedures.

Wash thoroughly after handling.

Storage and Transport: Store in a cool, dry place that is well-

ventilated and away from foodstuff containers, combustibles and

organics. Direct sunlight should be avoided. Do not return

unused liquid to the containers. Do not add any other substance

to the containers.
