4 FIRST AID MEASURES
Poisons Information Centre: Phone 131 126
Swallowed: If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons
Information Centre immediately. Do NOT induce vomiting.
Give a glass of water to drink. Rinse mouth with water. Never
give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Eye: Immediately hold the eyes open and wash continuously for
at least 15 minutes with fresh running water. Ensure irrigation
under eyelids by occasionally lifting the upper and lower lids.
Removal of contact lenses should only be undertaken by
skilled personnel.
Skin: Remove any contaminated clothing and shoes and flush
area with water and soap if available. Seek medical attention
in the event of irritation.
Inhaled: Remove affected person to fresh air. Lay patient down.
Keep warm and rested. If breathing is shallow or has stopped,
ensure clear airway and apply resuscitation. Administer
oxygen if breathing is difficult. Transport to doctor or hospital.
5 FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Fire/Explosion Hazard: Alpina is flammable.
Fire Extinguishing Media: Water spray or fog. Foam. Dry
chemical powder. Carbon dioxide.
Fire Fighting PPE: SCBA and structural fire fighter’s uniform
may provide limited protection. Fully-encapsulating, gas-tight
suits should be worn for maximum protection.
Special fire-fighting procedures: none.
Unusual fire hazards: Vapours will travel to source of ignition
and flash back. Vapours may collect in low or confined areas.
Hazardous products of combustion: Thermal decomposition at
temperatures above 200
0
C or in large fire may yield toxic
fumes. Use adequate ventilation.
6 ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Eliminate all ignition sources, such as flames, cigarettes,
sparks, within at least 50 metres. Do not touch or walk through
spilled material.
Stop leak if safe to do so. Prevent entry into waterways, drains
or pits. Vapour-suppressing foam may be used to control
vapours. Absorb spill with soil, sand or other non-combustible
material – use clean, non-sparking tools to collect material
and place it in drums for disposal. Water spray may be used
to knock down or divert vapour clouds.
If spilled on clothing, remove and launder before re-use.
7 HANDLING AND STORAGE
Handling: All equipment used in handling the product must be
earthed.
Storage and Transport: Store in a cool, dry place away from
foodstuff containers. Keep away from ignition sources.
